Collection: Prism Jewels

Oakland local Jennifer Biddle creates empowering jewelry influenced by her mom, architecture, astrology, tarot, crystal healing, magic, and growing up in Maui and New Mexico. 
Prism Jewels is what came from being inspired by mom who passed in 2003.  She was incredibly creative and we used to spend hours crafting and beading. She started using wire to make woven bracelets toward the end of her life. 
I sat meditating at the beach where my mom’s ashes are scattered on her birthday. I always visit her in the ocean and talk to her on her birthday. This particular day when I opened my eyes I saw whales breaching. I was overcome with the impulse to collect shells and make jewelry with them. I went straight to the store after I collected some pukka shells and got wire and tools. 
Since that day, I got my mom’s tools out of storage and started making the kind of jewelry I wanted to wear. Simple, geometric, moderately priced incorporating healing crystals. I figured out I could try selling it on the street and my first show was Berkeley Holiday Fair. To my surprise and delight, people gave me money for my creations. That launched 10 years+ of doing craft and street fairs all over Oakland, Berkeley and SF.  
The pandemic dried shows up and I was ready to get a brick and mortar after growing the brand over the years. I partnered with Elizabeth Bernstein of Maker’s Loft and we opened our store at 3972 Piedmont Ave together. After 2 years, I bought Maker’s Loft from Elizabeth who needed to take more time with her family. 
Now Prism Jewels is incorporating into Maker’s Loft great website. Thank you for making this all possible. What a dream. Thanks Mom.
